Dog fighting in South Africa is an alarming and society-shaking epidemic. This illegal and widely condemned act of animal cruelty has cast a dark shadow over our nation. Those caught in the horrifying act face a staggering R80,000 penalty.
Recently, two children on the run were apprehended in Grassy Park, and the grim discovery of two severely injured dogs with numerous puncture wounds sent shockwaves through our community. These suspects, shockingly aged between 10 and 12 years old, now face charges under Section 2A of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, it has come to light that the dogs involved were stolen from nearby neighborhoods. The alarm was sounded when a courageous eyewitness captured footage of these young individuals actively participating in a brutal dogfight involving pitbull-type dogs.
In response to this heinous crime, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is offering a reward of up to R5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of these dog fighters. The battle against dog fighting is not just a legal issue; it's a moral imperative that demands our collective action to protect innocent animals and the well-being of our society.
