‎In just 3 months creatives of all spheres where ready for the year, we could all say that the year has been good to us, more of this on its way, but for first half of year this is what kept the streets buzzing and even now, So in March 2025, a red-carpet evening in Johannesburg brought together musical artists, visual creators, and fashion innovators for a celebration unlike any other. That event planted the seed for something larger — a movement now known as gala,NOIR.

From Event to Movement

‎What began as a single gala has transformed into a full-fledged media platform. Today, gala,NOIR operates as a magazine, a vlog channel, and a curator of art experiences designed to spotlight the creative brilliance often overlooked in South Africa’s fast-paced cultural scene. Now, with filmmaking on the horizon, the platform is expanding its reach even further, creating new opportunities for emerging voices to be seen and heard.

The Meaning Behind NOIR

‎The word NOIR means “black” in French. For the founders of gala,NOIR, it means much more than color. It represents being unapologetically South African — and more importantly, unapologetically African. It symbolizes an identity rooted in pride, resilience, and authenticity.

‎The streets of Johannesburg provide the heartbeat of the movement. They are alive with raw talent: painters, singers, designers, and filmmakers whose work reflects not only personal stories but also the collective rhythm of African life. These are the artists gala,NOIR is dedicated to uplifting.

A Platform for Growth

‎While the platform’s foundation was laid in March 2025, the vision is focused on sustainable growth. This growth is not measured only in scale but in depth — building authentic connections between artists and audiences. As the founders emphasize, the mission is about “connecting with the people that connect with us.” — gala, NOIR

‎This commitment positions gala,NOIR as more than a showcase. It is a bridge — linking emerging talent with platforms that allow them to flourish, and connecting audiences with the next wave of creative expression.

These are some of the creatives that came through at this year's TheLeakFashionShow Auditions at the CottonFest Exchange Venue in Braamfotien, Johannesburg

Stepping Into Film

‎The movement’s next chapter reflects its ambitious spirit: film. Soon, gala,NOIR will host the screening of a curated film for an Afro-soul artist. This project embodies the platform’s purpose — to merge art forms, tell stories that matter, and bring visibility to talent rooted in African identity.

Looking Ahead

gala,NOIR is not simply another media platform. It is a movement dedicated to creating space for the unseen, the unheard, and the under-recognized. It’s an affirmation that African creativity deserves not only to be acknowledged but celebrated on its own terms.

Join the Movement

‎If you believe in the power of art to transform culture and want to witness the rise of Africa’s next generation of creatives, gala,NOIR is the place to be. Follow our journey, engage with our magazine and vlogs, and be part of the audiences that shape the future of African art.

‎This isn’t just about watching from the sidelines. It’s about standing with a movement that stands for Africa.

‎Follow, share, and show up. The next chapter of African creativity starts with gala,NOIR — and it starts with you.
